Neptune Vision

Neptune Vision began with a simple, personal problem: I was experiencing serious eye strain from constant laptop work. It wasn't just me – I watched friends and family struggling with the same issue as our lives became increasingly screen-centered.
This is the story of how my own experience with digital eye strain led me to create Neptune Vision – a brand dedicated to making eyewear that actually solves a real problem without compromising on style. I wanted to share the straightforward journey of trying to create something that was both functional and stylish for our increasingly digital lives.
Like many people, I spend most of my working day staring at screens. Long hours at my laptop left me with all the classic symptoms of digital eye strain: headaches, dry eyes, blurred vision by evening, and difficulty sleeping. It was affecting my work, my wellbeing, and my daily life.
When I looked for solutions, my eye doctor suggested blue light filtering glasses. That's when I encountered a frustrating reality: the available options were deeply unsatisfying. I had to choose between effective but unattractive yellow-tinted glasses or stylish frames with minimal protection.
It seemed like an unnecessary compromise. Why couldn't protective eyewear look good too? Why did function and style have to be mutually exclusive? In an age of advanced materials and design, this limitation felt artificial and outdated.
When I talked about this frustration with friends and family, I discovered I wasn't alone. Many people – especially those in creative and tech fields who needed color accuracy – avoided blue light glasses despite their eye strain because they couldn't tolerate the yellow tint or medical appearance. Yet they were suffering the consequences of unprotected screen use daily.
The Beginning
I started researching alternatives and discovered that there were promising advances in materials science that might solve this problem – technologies that could potentially filter blue light without the yellow tint that plagued most protective glasses.
That's when Neptune Vision began to take shape. I realized that if newer materials could solve the technical challenge, thoughtful design could create protective eyewear that people would actually want to wear – glasses that wouldn't be a compromise but a genuine choice.
I started with a simple set of requirements that I wouldn't compromise on:
I named the brand "Neptune Vision" because I wanted something that suggested clarity and depth – qualities that reminded me of looking through clear water. The name felt right for a product that was about seeing clearly both literally and figuratively, cutting through the haze of digital eye strain.
From the outset, Neptune Vision's design philosophy was guided by British design traditions that value restraint, precision, and longevity over fleeting trends. The British design sensibility tends to emphasize quality materials, meticulous craftsmanship, and a certain understated elegance that resists obsolescence.
"British design has this wonderful quality of being both innovative and timeless," explains Rebecca Lawson, design theorist and consultant for several British heritage brands. "It often incorporates new technologies and materials, but in a way that feels considered rather than novelty-driven. This balance makes it particularly well-suited to products that need to be both functional and aesthetically enduring—like eyewear."
We drew inspiration from diverse sources within the British design tradition: the clean functionality of Anglepoise lighting, the refined proportions of classic Jaguar automobiles, and the material honesty of Ercol furniture. These influences share a common thread—they resolve technical challenges while creating objects of lasting beauty.
For Neptune Vision, this translated to frames with balanced proportions, thoughtful details that reveal themselves upon closer inspection, and an overall sense of visual harmony. We avoided ostentatious branding in favor of subtle signifiers of quality: preciseness of assembly, thoughtfully engineered hinges, and superior materials with distinctive tactile properties.
Design Process
While the design direction was clarifying, the technical challenges remained formidable. Creating lenses that selectively filtered harmful blue light (predominantly in the 380-450nm range) while allowing beneficial blue wavelengths to pass through required significant material innovation.
Our breakthrough came through a collaboration with a specialized materials laboratory with expertise in photochromic technologies. Rather than applying a filtering coating to conventional lenses—the approach used by most blue light glasses—we developed a proprietary polymer that incorporated filtering properties at the molecular level.
"The key innovation was developing a material that could target specific wavelengths with extreme precision," explains Dr. Sarah Chen, lead material scientist who consulted on the project. "Most blue light filtering approaches use fairly blunt instruments, blocking broad swaths of the blue spectrum. Our approach is more like a surgeon's scalpel, removing harmful wavelengths while preserving the rest."
This materials-first approach yielded several advantages. The filtering properties were consistent across the entire lens, eliminating the potential for coating degradation or uneven protection. The material maintained exceptional clarity while still filtering 40-60% of harmful blue light—a performance balance that exceeded our initial targets.
After eighteen months of development and refinement, including over thirty prototype iterations, we achieved a lens material that met our stringent criteria. Independent laboratory testing confirmed both the filtering effectiveness and the minimal color distortion we had targeted.
With the technical foundation established, we turned our attention to the challenges of production. Creating premium eyewear at scale without compromising quality required finding the right manufacturing partners.
After an extensive search, we established partnerships with a specialized optical manufacturer in northern Italy—a region with a storied tradition of eyewear craftsmanship—and a materials production facility in the UK that could produce our proprietary lens material to our exact specifications.
This international collaboration combined Italian expertise in frame manufacturing with British materials innovation—a partnership that reflected our commitment to sourcing the best capabilities wherever they existed. While design and development remained firmly rooted in Britain, we embraced a global production approach that prioritized quality and expertise.
Our initial production run in late 2023 yielded a small batch of prototypes for extended user testing. These samples were distributed to a diverse group of professionals—including designers, programmers, financial analysts, and creative directors—who spent significant time using digital devices. Their feedback proved invaluable, highlighting aspects of both performance and comfort that informed our final refinements.
Production Process
As Neptune Vision evolved from concept to reality, certain core values emerged that continue to guide our decisions. These principles inform everything from design choices to business operations:
We believe that products should honestly fulfill their intended purpose. Our glasses are designed first and foremost to protect eyes from digital strain, with every design decision evaluated against this primary function. We resist the temptation to compromise protection for styling or to exaggerate capabilities for marketing advantage.
We are committed to creating products of exceptional quality that justify their premium positioning. This means selecting the finest materials, working with skilled craftspeople, and applying rigorous quality control at every stage. We would rather delay a launch than release a product that falls short of our standards.
We approach innovation with a sense of responsibility, focusing on meaningful advancements rather than novelty for its own sake. Our R&D investments target genuine improvements in eye protection technology and sustainable materials, not superficial features that add little value.
We believe in design that respects both aesthetics and function as equal partners. Our minimalist approach isn't merely a style choice—it reflects our belief that thoughtful reduction creates products of lasting relevance. We design for longevity, creating eyewear that resists fashion obsolescence.
These values have sometimes led us to make difficult business decisions. We've delayed launches to perfect details, rejected materials that didn't meet our standards despite their lower cost, and redesigned components that could have been "good enough" but didn't reflect our commitment to excellence.
As we prepare for our Summer 2025 launch, Neptune Vision stands at an exciting threshold. What began as a personal quest for better eye protection has evolved into a brand with a clear mission: to create premium eyewear that protects vision in the digital age without compromising on style or visual clarity.
Our initial collection features five distinctive frame styles, each available in four colorways. Every design embodies our core philosophy—minimalist British aesthetics combined with advanced blue light filtering technology. The collection ranges from the boldly architectural Horizon frames to the classically inspired Meridian model, offering options for diverse preferences while maintaining a cohesive design language.
Looking beyond our launch, we've established an ambitious research agenda focused on next-generation eye protection technologies. We're exploring advanced materials that could further improve filtering precision, investigating ergonomic innovations to enhance all-day comfort, and researching sustainable production methods to reduce environmental impact.
We're also developing educational initiatives to raise awareness about digital eye health. The average person now spends 8-10 hours daily on digital devices, yet many remain unaware of the potential implications for long-term eye health. Through partnerships with vision researchers and eye care professionals, we aim to contribute to the broader conversation about protecting vision in our increasingly screen-centric world.
Looking Forward
As we approach our launch, we've been heartened by the community forming around Neptune Vision. What began as a small team has expanded to include advisors, early adopters, and advocates who share our concern for eye health in the digital age and our appreciation for thoughtful design.
This growing community includes professionals from diverse fields—designers, developers, writers, architects, and financial analysts—united by their extended screen usage and their unwillingness to compromise on either protection or aesthetics. Their perspectives continue to inform our development process, creating a virtuous cycle of feedback and refinement.
"What's striking about the Neptune Vision approach is how thoroughly they've considered both the technical and aesthetic aspects of the product," notes Daniel Roberts, a UX designer who participated in our user testing program. "Most blue light glasses feel like medical devices that happen to look like regular glasses. These feel like premium eyewear that happens to provide excellent protection."
As we continue to build this community, we're committed to maintaining open communication with our users, incorporating their feedback, and evolving our products to better serve their needs. We see our customers not merely as consumers but as partners in our mission to redefine what protective eyewear can be.
When I look back at how this started, it's remarkable how a straightforward problem – my own tired eyes and those of people around me – led to creating Neptune Vision. What began as looking for a better solution to my own eye strain has become something I hope will help many others dealing with the same daily discomfort.
Creating these glasses has been challenging but incredibly rewarding. Each step of figuring out materials, design, and manufacturing has reinforced my belief that we shouldn't have to choose between protecting our eyes and looking good while doing it.
As we get ready to launch Neptune Vision in Summer 2025, I'm excited to offer something that solves a real problem I've experienced firsthand. I genuinely believe these glasses address a need that's only growing as our lives become more screen-centric.
My goal is simple: to transform blue light glasses from something people reluctantly wear into something they choose to wear – protecting their eyes without sacrificing their style or comfort. If you've been struggling with eye strain like I have, I hope Neptune Vision will be the solution you've been looking for.
